Whilst Christmas, with all its excess, relaxation and general unproductiveness, might seem like a great chance to go without make-up, and on a good few Christmas occasions I’ve decided I can’t be arsed with it, I actually really enjoy putting on a festive face. Apart from anything else, it’s a perfect excuse to way your fanciest lipstick without even leaving the house, and since it’s Christmas, the brighter the better. And if you only want to wear lipstick and nothing else on your face, well why the hell not. I’ve had a quick look-out of products I reckon I’ll be utilising on the day, and to find out more information about everything featured you can click the product on the image above.

Since I’m planning on going all out on lip colour, the base will be simple, partly because I’m not going to be bothered or level-handed enough after my first few festive drinks, and to help this last I’ll be using the last drops of my Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. Even through the walking between me and my partner’s parents’ houses, frequent boozing and face-stuffing I have planned for Christmas 2013, the primer will ensure my make-up stays in place for most of the day. Then, a great foundation/concealer duo: YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat my fancy foundation – I wear B10 and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer for any blemishes or dark circles I wear the shade ‘Vanilla’.

Then, a light brush on the high points of my face (cheekbones, bridge of nose, chin) with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in “Diffused Light” will give a subtle Christmassy glow you don’t just want light to come from the flashing Christmas tree earrings, after all. Cheeks will be left simple with my go-to, much loved everyday cream blush “Penny Lane” by NARS: my cheeks will inevitably get rosy from wine and gin so I won’t bother fighting it.

Then, the finer details. I’ll lightly fill in and shape my wayward brows with the excellent Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in “Soft Brunette” this is quite an Hourglass-centric face, no bad thing, and prime my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I haven’t included any eye make-up here since I haven’t decided between a subtle neutral eye or, more likely, a cat-like flick with my L’Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim in “Intense Black”: I do love a black liner/red lip combination. Then I’ll curl my eyelashes and add a slick of my volumising mascara of choice right now, Maybelline The Rocket Volum’ Express, which is waterproof that will come in handy if we decide to watch Toy Story 3 in the evening…

To top it all off, I’ll be reaching for my favourite fancy lipstick, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in “La Fascinante”, a perfect blend of bright red and winter berry. Even if you don’t fancy wearing much make-up on Christmas Day personally I do I’d always advocate you cracking out your favourite item in your collection, whether it be an eyeshadow, lipstick or nail polish. Oh, and speaking of nails, I can’t wait to try my best to apply and probably fail in doing so my first ever set of nail wraps: this one is the ‘Christmas Jumper’ set from Topshop.

So there’s my festive face (and nail) pretty much all sorted. Now I’ve written this I’m well in the mood and prepared for the festive days to come: you can even see my Christmas tree reflected in the Hourglass lighting powder! I’ll just need to make sure I apply all this well before we pop open the bubbly…
